On the occasion of Army Day, PM Narendra Modi extends his gratitude towards the Indian Army on behalf of the nation and pays honour to the brave soldiers, veterans, and their families for their huge contribution towards national security. PM Modi tweeted this morning to acknowledge the bravery of the Indian Army for their sacrifices and invaluable services.

“Best wishes on the occasion of Army Day, especially to our courageous soldiers, respected veterans and their families. The Indian Army is known for its bravery and professionalism. Words cannot do justice to the invaluable contribution of the Indian Army towards national safety,” PM Modi tweeted.

Army Day is celebrated on 15 January every year in India, in recognition of Field Marshal Kodandera M. Cariappa’s (then a Lieutenant General) taking over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from General Fransis Bucher, the last British Commander-in-Chief of India, on 15 January 1949. The day is celebrated in the form of parades and other military shows in the national capital New Delhi as well as in all headquarters.

“Indian Army personnel serve in hostile terrains and are at the forefront of helping fellow citizens during humanitarian crisis, including natural disasters. India is proud of the stellar contribution of the Army in Peacekeeping Missions overseas as well,” PM Modi wrote on Twitter.

On Friday, Army Chief General MM Naravane extended his gratitude towards the army in his speech on Army Day. “We stand firm to counter any attempt to unilaterally change the status quo along our borders. Our response to such attempts has been swift, calibrated and decisive as was seen when the situation so demanded,” Army Chief General said in his speech.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also extended his wishes and greetings towards the army. “Our Army has distinguished itself as a courageous and professional force, unwavering in their commitment to defend the country. The nation is proud of the Indian Army.” he tweeted.
