India climbs ranks to 135th in IEP’s Global Peace Index

India has maintained its rank of 135th since 2021 in the Global Peace Index. The Global Peace Index is produced by Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) to measure global peacefulness.

India: The Global Peace Index is produced by Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) to measure global peacefulness. The report presents a comprehensive data-driven analysis of trends in peace and how to develop peaceful societies. The Global Peace Index covers 99.7% of the world’s population, using 23 qualitative and quantitative indicators.

The index points out to the average level of global peace being deteriorated by a mere 0.03% and 90 countries improved and 71 deteriorated in recent times.

The Index indicates that Europe is the most peaceful region in the world, however, Russia and Ukraine have taken a nose dive in their rankings due to Putin’s special military operation.

India has ranked 135th on the list with Israel and Palestine on 134 and 133 respectively. India’s rank has been stable since the last year as India improved its ranking in 2021 from 139th to 135th.

Despite having itself entangled with India in the Himalayas, locking horns with ASEAN states in the South China Sea and intimidating the US and its East Asian allies, China ranks at a shocking 89thon on the list.

Pakistan ranked 147th in the index and has the lowest rank in the South Asian region. Despite improving by 3 ranks since last year.

Bhutan emerged as the most peaceful state in South Asia with the rank of 19th in this index. Which was well above countries like Australia, the Netherlands and even Sweden.
