Independent MP Mohan Delkar found dead at Mumbai, suicide suspected
Mohan Delkar, an independent MP, was found dead at a hotel located on Marine Drive in Mumbai today. He is suspected to have died by suicide at a hotel in South Mumbai. His body has been sent for postmortem. Further investigation is underway. The Lok Sabha MP has reportedly left a suicide note written in the Gujarati language.
The police have started the investigation and are probing all the angles, including suspected suicide. Sources have told India Today TV that Mohan Delkar had gone to Mumbai in connection with some work.
Mohanbhai Delkar belonged to the Bharatiya Navshakti Party and was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2019 for the seventh time. Mohan Delkar was Congress president of Dadra and Nagar Haveli when he quit the party in 2019 to contest the national election as an independent.
In September 2019, Delkar was appointed as a member of the Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice, and a member of the Consultative Committee, Ministry of Home Affairs.
Last year, Mohan Delkar had tied up with the JDU for the local election in Dadra and Nagar Haveli after a meeting with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. His support for the JDU resulted in a loss of seats to the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Born in Silvassa, Delkar was an agriculturist by profession. His last tweet was posted on October 22, 2020, in which he extended birthday wishes to Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
