The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) has reached a significant milestone, surpassing ₹5 lakh crore in Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) ahead of the financial year 2024-25 closure. This marks a rapid expansion in public procurement, benefiting over 1.6 lakh government entities.
The jump from ₹4 lakh crore to ₹5 lakh crore was achieved in under 50 days, highlighting GeM’s role as a key procurement tool for the government. Several policy reforms, including reduced transaction charges and vendor assessment fees, have improved accessibility, particularly for Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs), startups, and women-led businesses.
GeM has also made technological advancements, including a large-scale cloud migration and AI-powered search capabilities, enhancing procurement efficiency. The platform has facilitated over ₹1.15 lakh crore in public savings and continues to drive transparency and efficiency in government procurement.
As GeM celebrates the sixth anniversary of the SWAYATT initiative—focusing on startups, women, and youth—the platform remains committed to inclusivity and innovation in India’s procurement landscape.
