Devendra Fadnavis has been unanimously elected as the leader of Maharashtra BJP’s legislative party, paving the way for his appointment as the state’s Chief Minister. The announcement follows the BJP’s legislature party meeting, where Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani acted as central observers.
Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule expressed gratitude to voters for the resounding victory of the Mahayuti alliance in the state assembly elections. He attributed the coalition’s success to the leadership of Devendra Fadnavis and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“We fought a historic election under the leadership of Devendra Fadnavis and secured a mandate for Mahayuti. We are committed to making Maharashtra the number one state with PM Modi’s guidance,” Bawankule said.
The BJP has confirmed that the new Chief Minister will take oath on December 5 at Azad Maidan in Mumbai in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders.
In the recent state assembly elections, the Mahayuti alliance secured a significant win, capturing 230 of the 288 assembly seats. The BJP led with 132 seats, followed by Shiv Sena with 57 and NCP with 41.
