New Delhi, June 18: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday approved a proposal to reserve 10 per cent of job vacancies in the Defence Ministry for Agniveers if they meet the eligibility criteria.
“The 10 per cent reservation will be implemented in the Indian Coast Guard. And defence civilian posts and in all the 16 Defence Public Sector Undertakings. This reservation would be in addition to existing reservation for ex-servicemen,” the Minister’s Office tweeted.
Necessary amendments to relevant recruitment rules will be undertaken to implement these provisions, it added.
Further, the government has said that Defence Public Sector Undertakings will. Also be advised to make similar amendments to their respective recruitment rules.
Necessary age relaxation provision will be made, it said.
Earlier, Rajnath Singh chaired a meeting at his residence. To evaluate the overall situation in the country in the wake of. Protests against the controversial recruitment scheme in the armed forces.
The meeting was attended by Air Chief Marshal V R Chaudhary. Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar, Army Vice Chief Lt Gen B S Raju. As well as officials of the Department of Military Affairs and Ministry of Defence.
The Home Ministry earlier announced a 10 per cent reservation to Agniveers for recruitment in the Central Armed Police Forces and Assam Rifles.
The Ministry also announced three years’ age relaxation beyond the prescribed upper age limit to Agniveers for recruitment in the paramilitary forces.
The three Service Chiefs and the entire government machinery has been busy in mounting a defence in favor of the scheme on Friday by saying that Agniveers will be absorbed by other central as well as state government departments.
