There has been severe flooding in Chennai due to the Michong cyclone. Due to which many people are facing problems. Many people have also been displaced. At the same time, many people have died due to Cyclone Michong.
At the same time, Union Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted in which he wrote, Chennai is facing severe floods, this is the third flood in the last 8 years. We are seeing more instances of flash floods due to excessive rainfall in metropolitan cities.
“Chennai is facing major floods, the third such occurring in the last eight years. We are witnessing more instances of metropolitan cities receiving excessive rainfall, leading to sudden flooding. Guided by a pro-active approach, PM @narendramodi Ji has approved the first urban flood mitigation project of Rs. 561.29 crore for ‘Integrated Urban Flood Management activities for Chennai Basin Project’ under the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF), which also includes Central assistance of Rs. 500 crore,” wrote Amit Shah.
“This mitigation project will help make Chennai flood-resilient. This is the first in a series of urban flood mitigation efforts and will help develop a broader framework for urban flood management,” he added.

Project worth Rs 561 crore gets approval
He further wrote, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the first urban flood mitigation project worth Rs 561.29. Rs 561.29 crore for ‘Integrated Urban Flood Management Activities for Chennai Basin Project’ under National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF), which also includes central assistance of Rs 500 crore.
Shah said this mitigation project will help in making Chennai flood resistant. This is the first in a series of urban flood mitigation efforts and will help develop a comprehensive framework for urban flood management.
In another tweet, Amit Shah said that the severe cyclonic storm Michaung has affected Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Although the extent of damage varies, many areas in these states are inundated, affecting standing crops.
“To help the state Governments with the management of relief necessitated by the cyclonic storm, PM @narendramodi Ji directed the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to release in advance the central share of the 2nd installment of SDRF of Rs 493.60 crore to Andhra Pradesh and Rs 450 crore to Tamil Nadu,” wrote Shah.
“The centre had already released the 1st installment of the same amount to both States. I pray for the safety and well-being of all those affected. We stand with them in this crucial hour and will ensure the situation normalizes at the earliest,” he added.

194 villages and 40 lakh people have been affected
According to data shared by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the impact of Michaung affected around 40 lakh people in 194 villages and two towns, including flooding in 25 villages.
In Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu, residents are battling stable water and power disruptions in many areas and its suburbs after Michaung wreaked havoc in the metropolis and neighbouring districts.
