In the 1988 road rage case, the Supreme Court convicted Congress politician Navjot Singh Sidhu to one year in prison.
In February of this year, the Supreme Court heard the case to determine if Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu should face more serious charges in the 32-year-old road rage case.
The victim’s family had filed a review petition requesting increase of sentence for an offence of a more serious category than inflicting harm. Sidhu, on the other hand, had urged the Supreme Court not to sentence him to prison.
In March of this year, Navjot Singh Sidhu told the Supreme Court that the plea seeking an expansion of the scope of notice in the matter relating to the review of the sentence imposed on him in the road rage case was a “abuse of process”.
Sidhu was found guilty of “voluntarily causing harm” by the Supreme Court in May 2018. It saved a 65-year-old man in the case from jail time and fined him Rs 1,000.
Sidhu was charged in a road rage case in which Patiala resident Gurnam Singh died. Hence, Sidhu was fined Rs 1,000 by the Supreme Court in May 2018.
This came after he was found guilty of voluntarily causing hurt. As well as sentenced to three years in prison by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The Supreme Court cleared him, citing the fact that the case was nearly 30 years old. And that the accused had not used a weapon.
