Court reserves order on Mohammed Zubair’s bail plea

A Delhi court on Saturday reserved its order after hearing arguments for bail for journalist Mohammed Zubair, arrested for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.

New Delhi, July 2: A Delhi court on Saturday reserved its order after hearing arguments for bail for journalist Mohammed Zubair, arrested for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.

Zubair, co-founder of fact-check website Alt News, has been accused of receiving foreign funds in violation of law including via payment gateway Razorpay from Pakistan.

Delhi Police have been added fresh charges against him including criminal conspiracy and disappearance of evidence.

A court gave four days police custody to question Zubair which ended on Saturday.

His counsel moved the bail application saying the investigation was over.

The government counsel opposed the bail application and submitted. That donations have come from Pakistan and Syria besides Singapore, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

Zubair’s counsel challenged the allegations by submitting. That the money he is alleged to be received has not gone into his account. But to Pravda Media and that it was not a crime to be a Director of the firm.
