The Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Malikarjun Kharge and Congress leader Pawan Bansal reach the National Herald office after today’s raid this evening.

The Enforcement Directorat0e (ED) had raided several locations in Delhi including the main office of the National Herald as part of an ongoing money laundering investigation.

This comes shortly after the ED summoned the Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald money laundering case.

Several officials of the ED Have stated that the raids are being done under the criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to gather trails of funds.

This case is to investigate alleged financial irregularities under the PMLA that were registered 9 months ago after a trial in a court took cognizance of the IT probe which was carried out after former BJP MP Subramanian Swamy filed a complaint in 2013.

Swamy had alleged that the assets of Associated Journals Ltd (the company that published the newspaper) were illegally acquired and transferred to Young Indian Ltd, a company of which Sonia and Rahul Gandhi own 38% of shares each.

The BJP MP has also alleged that the Gandhis had misappropriated funds with YIL paying a mere 50 lakh to obtain the right to recover 90.25 crores that AJL owed Congress.

Karge has accused the BJP of misusing the agencies against the opposition parties as he pointed out the interrogation of the Gandhis over the National Herald Case and the recent arrest of Shiv Sena MP and spokesperson Sanjay Raut over the Patra Chawl Case.
