It’s been a long time since 1947, during this period, India saw an advent of 23 Chief Ministers in Karnataka, starting from K Chengalaraya Reddy 1947 to the current serving Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai who took oath in 2021. The state of Mysore was later officially named as “Karnataka” on 1 November 1973″ and then Devaraj Arasu was the first and longest serving Chief Minister who served for seven years in 1970.Chief Minister H. D. Deve Gowda, also became the 11th Prime Minister of India, whereas B.D.Jatti, served as the Country’s 5th Vice President. B.S. Yediyurappa was the first Chief Minister from BJP who is the fourth longest-serving CM. Karnataka has also been under Presidents rule for 6 times over a short period of time. The Congress party on May 13 clinched the State of Karnataka in a resounding victory over the incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party-led government. With at least 135 seats in the bag, the party comfortably crossed the majority mark of 113 in an election widely seen as a litmus test for both parties ahead of the 2024 parliamentary polls. Meanwhile, the BJP government won only 65 seats with CM Basavaraj Bommai conceding defeat early in the day. The suspense regarding the name of the Karnataka Chief Minister has continued as the Congress party has been unable to decide to whom it should offer the top post in the state-Siddaramaiah or DK Shivakumar. The two aspirants have played an equally significant role in the victory of the Congress party in the recently held elections in which the party won 135 of the 224 assembly seats, defeating rival BJP brutally.
