Bursting firecrackers used to feel like a crime in AAP’s era, says Delhi minister as SC allows green crackers on Diwali

Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma has welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision permitting the bursting of green firecrackers in Delhi-NCR during Diwali, calling it a moment of celebration for residents after years of restrictions.

Reacting to the verdict, Verma said, “I congratulate every citizen of Delhi for choosing a good government. Our CM had said that Delhi will not celebrate Diwali without firecrackers this time. I welcome the decision given by the Supreme Court today. In previous years, bursting of firecrackers used to feel like a crime, as Kejriwal’s AAP government had banned them.”

The Supreme Court on Tuesday partially relaxed the blanket ban imposed by the Delhi government, allowing the use of eco-friendly green firecrackers during Diwali. However, the permission comes with strict conditions, including adherence to time limits and environmental guidelines.

The decision has sparked mixed reactions — while many citizens celebrated the move as a return to traditional festivities, environmental activists expressed concerns over its impact on Delhi’s worsening air quality.

The ruling marks a significant shift from the stringent curbs imposed over the past few years, which had led to widespread debates on balancing environmental protection with cultural traditions.
