Sensex, Nifty jumps over 1% in early trade, TCS shares rise 2% and Tata Steel shares rise over 1%

TCS shares jumped 2.13% to Rs 3280.50 in early trade on Monday, while Tata Steel rose 1.58% to Rs 117.40. Nifty Bank gained 0.20%, Nifty Pharma gained 0.88%, Nifty IT gained 1.34%, Nifty PSU Bank gained 0.52%, and Nifty Consumer Durables lost 0.33%.

On Monday, Indian equity indices opened in the green. The NSE Nifty 50 increased by 192.10 points, or 1.08%, to 18,051.55, while the BSE Sensex increased by 642.60 points, or 1.07%, to 60,546.20. Hindalco, Tech Mahindra, Tata Motors, Tata Steel, and UPL were the top Nifty gainers, while Titan, HDFC Life, ICICI Bank, Hindustan Unilever, and Eicher Motors were the top losers.

Tata Steel, TCS shares in focus today 

Tata Steel shares rose 1.58% to Rs 117.40 on Monday after the company reported that its India business production increased 4.2% year on year to 5 million tonne, while delivery volumes decreased 3.6% to 4.73 million tonne. Deliveries increased 7% over the previous year, driven by an 11% increase in domestic deliveries, which also resulted in an improvement in product mix. TCS shares, on the other hand, rose 2.13% to Rs 3280.50 ahead of the Q3 results announcement. According to brokerages, the company’s consolidated revenue is expected to increase 16.4% year on year, while consolidated profit after tax (PAT) is expected to increase 15.1% year on year. TCS’ third interim dividend announcement will also be important to watch.

Sectoral Indices

Nifty Bank gained 0.20%, Nifty Pharma gained 0.88%, Nifty IT gained 1.34%, Nifty PSU Bank gained 0.52%, and Nifty Consumer Durables lost 0.33%. The India VIX volatility index was up 0.39%.

Asian and US stock markets

On Monday, China’s Shanghai Composite Index rose 16.46 points, or 0.52%, to 3,174.17, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng gained 14.27 points, or 0.45%, to 3,171.90. The Nikkei 225 in Japan closed Friday’s session 153.05 points, or 0.59% higher, at 25,973.85. On Friday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) rose 700.53 points, or 2.13%, to 33,630.61, the S&P500 gained 86.98 points, or 2.28%, to 3,895.08, and the Nasdaq advanced 264.05 points, or 2.56%, to 10,569.29.

FII and DII Data

According to NSE statistics, on Friday, 6 January 2023, foreign institutional investors (FII) sold shares worth a net Rs 2902.46 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DII) bought shares worth a net Rs 1083.17 crore.
