Sensex ends 36 pts lower, Nifty closes at 17,534

The BSE Sensex fell 35.78 points, or 0.06 percent, to 58,817.29 at the close of business, while the Nifty50 increased by 9.65 points, or 0.06 percent, to 17,534.75.

The Sensex closed Wednesday’s trading session in the negative, and the Nifty50 closed in the green over the 17500-point. The market was most negatively impacted today by companies in the IT, real estate, and FMCG sectors.

The BSE Sensex fell 35.78 points, or 0.06 percent, to 58,817.29 at the close of business, while the Nifty50 increased by 9.65 points, or 0.06 percent, to 17,534.75. The small- and mid-cap indices each fell between 0.1% and 0.2% at the close, causing the overall markets to conclude in the red.

At the close, 30 stocks on the Nifty50 were up while 20 were down. Following strongly positive June quarter results, Hindalco gained the most to become the top Nifty gainer, up almost 4.5%, with UPL and Coal India each up over 2% as of Wednesday’s market close.

While other market leaders including Tata Steel, Apollo Hospitals, Tata Motors, and Bharti Airtel all saw gains of 1.5% to 2% at today’s market close.

Contrarily, Bajaj Finance, which has lost more than 2.5% since the session began today, has maintained its position as the lowest on the Nifty50, followed by ONGC, which has lost over 2%. While SBI, HCL Tech, Adani Ports, UltraTech Cement, and each were down over 1%, they were also among the top losers.
