On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a reduction of Rs 200 in the price of domestic LPG cylinders for all users as a gift to the women of India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “This is a gift to crores of my sisters of the country on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. Our Government will always do everything possible that improves people’s quality of life and benefits the poor and middle class.” Union Minister Anurag Thakur stated that this decision is in line with PM Modi’s consistent efforts since 2014 to support women and their empowerment. Over 9.6 crore women have already benefited from the government’s Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY).

The Cabinet has also approved the establishment of 75 lakh new gas connections free of cost under PMUY. The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, launched in May 2016, is a key social welfare initiative by the government aimed at providing clean cooking fuel access to economically disadvantaged women, particularly those living below the poverty line. The scheme’s primary objective is to replace traditional cooking methods that rely on solid fuels such as wood, coal, and biomass with the safer and cleaner option of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
This decision by the government is expected to have a significant impact on the lives of millions of women across the country. By providing access to clean cooking fuel, the government is not only improving the health and well-being of these women but also empowering them by reducing their dependence on traditional cooking methods that can be time-consuming and labor-intensive.
The reduction in the price of LPG cylinders will also provide much-needed relief to households that have been struggling with rising fuel prices. This move is expected to benefit not only women but also their families, who will now have access to affordable cooking fuel.
In conclusion, the government’s decision to reduce the price of LPG cylinders and provide free gas connections under PMUY is a welcome step towards improving the quality of life for millions of women across India. It is a testament to PM Modi’s commitment to supporting and empowering women, and it is hoped that this initiative will have a lasting impact on their lives.
