The sphinx pose is the gentlest backbend and is well-known for its soothing and therapeutic properties. This simple yoga pose, also known as Salamba Bhujangasana,  helps to expand the chest and shoulders while also improving blood circulation.

Cobra Pose

To begin, stretch your legs and point your toes away from yourself while lying on your stomach. Lay your hands behind your shoulders on the yoga mat. Taking a breath, lift your chest off the mat lightly. Maintain your pelvis on the mat while using your core. Arc your back and extend your arms as far as comfortable. Look straight forward or slightly up. After a few breaths, hold the position and then drop your chest back down.

Bow Pose

Stretch your legs out while lying on your stomach. Bring your heels up to your buttocks as you bend your knees. Put your hands behind your back and hold your ankles. Inhale and raise your torso and thighs off the mat, while kicking your feet into your hands. Arch your back and maintain your gaze ahead. Hold for a couple of breaths before releasing and relaxing on the mat.
