In a bold move to mark the 35th anniversary of their historic ‘Trans-Himalayan Expedition’ of 1989, the Vidharbha Automotive Racing Association (VARA) has announced plans for an ‘All-Women Trans-Himalayan Motor Expedition’ scheduled for 2025. This groundbreaking adventure, set to span 60 days, will see exclusively female drivers and navigators traverse the challenging terrain of the Himalayas. The initiative aims to celebrate women’s achievements in motorsports and adventure while paying homage to VARA’s legacy of record-setting expeditions.
Mehernosh Mavalwala, president of VARA, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming endeavour, stating, “The ‘All-Women Trans-Himalayan Motor Expedition’ represents a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to fostering inclusivity and pushing the boundaries of adventure sports. We are proud to provide a platform for women to showcase their skills and determination in a traditionally male-dominated arena.”
Established in 1988, VARA, headquartered in Nagpur, has been at the forefront of promoting automotive racing and adventure sports in Central India. Under Mavalwala’s leadership, the association has played a pivotal role in organizing thrilling events that captivate enthusiasts and push the limits of motorsports. With a rich history of record-setting achievements, including two Guinness World Records, VARA continues to elevate the profile of motorsports in the region.
The upcoming expedition will adhere to strict guidelines, with only female participants permitted as drivers and navigators. While male crew members may accompany the team, they will be restricted to rear-seat positions, ensuring that women take centerstage in this new historic journey.
Interested participants are encouraged to register early, as entries will be limited on a first-come, first-served basis. Those interested in joining this groundbreaking expedition can request details through VARA’s website www.vara.org.in via WhatsApp message or email.
‘The All-Women Trans-Himalayan Motor Expedition’ promises to be a testament to the spirit of adventure and resilience. As women prepare to conquer the Himalayas behind the wheel, VARA reaffirms its commitment to empowering individuals and breaking barriers in the world of motorsports.
