Central government orders running of trains within the state in Maharashtra, for Ganesh Chaturthi.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic trains were permitted for long journeys only, but now the Central Ministry has informed that it will run special trains for Ganesh Chaturthi, allowing people to travel within the state.

The special trains may be scheduled to the Konkan region of the state, however Maharashtra Government has not given the final nod and thus the matter is still under reconsideration.

The central railway  wrote a letter to the Maharashtra government on 23 July, asking their views about running Ganesh special trains within the state. In response Director, Disaster Management Unit of Maharashtra vide their letter on 7 August and informed that special trains may be scheduled to the Konkan region.

The railway board has approved the running of the special trains and the Central Railways has prepared a schedule for the special trains. But the senior officials of state government have asked to keep it on hold.

Although the norms of social distancing will be followed what is frightening is the spiking number of cases every day. The state has registered more than 11,000 cases on Thursday. While the total death toll of the state stands at 19,063.
