Mumbai auto base prices to increase to Rs 26 from Rs 23, taxi prices to increase from Rs 25 to 28 from February 1

The base fare for auto-rickshaws will rise from ₹23 to ₹26, while taxis will see an increase from ₹25 to ₹28.

Mumbai’s auto and taxi fares will increase starting February 1 after the MMRTA approved a fare hike following demands from unions.

The base fare for auto-rickshaws will rise from ₹23 to ₹26, while taxis will see an increase from ₹25 to ₹28. This marks the first fare revision since October 2022. Unions had pressed for a ₹3 hike, citing rising operational costs driven by the consistent increase in CNG prices.

Currently, CNG prices in Mumbai stand at ₹79 per kg, up significantly from ₹57 per kg in 2021, placing financial strain on drivers. The fare hike is seen as a necessary step to balance the impact of rising fuel and maintenance expenses.

The revised fares aim to provide some relief to drivers while keeping public transport affordable. Authorities are expected to issue detailed guidelines for the implementation in the coming days.
