Indian Railways cancels all tickets booked before lockdown till June-end

In a significant development, Indian Railways on Wednesday announced to cancel all tickets booked for passenger trains until June 30.

The Ministry of Railways will provide a full refund to the passengers whose tickets have been cancelled.

For PRS (Passenger Reservation System) counter tickets, passengers can apply for refunds within 6 months from the date of journey, while e-tickets would be refunded automatically.

“Most of the bookings which have been cancelled were booked during January, February and March,” a senior railway official said.

It is to be noted here that the national transporter would continue to run the special passenger trains (which commenced from 12th May) and Shramik special trains (being run for transporting stranded migrants).

In addition, the Ministry of Railways also issued a refund policy if a passenger is prohibited from boarding the train for showing symptoms of novel coronavirus.
