Face masks made of coloured light-emitting diodes, the coolest of cool skincare equipment, have become the buzz of the beauty industry. Our Instagram feed is always providing us with glimpses of this gadget from celebrities to beauty influencers, and even international beauty queen Kylie Jenner has stated using this LED mask in her beauty routine. Let’s see if this gadget can really ensure its effectiveness!
LED Face Masks: What are these?
LED light masks are something that you wear over your face and are lighted by LED lights. Although you may have heard more people recently discussing these masks, they are nothing new; they have been around for decades and have an “excellent” safety profile. Today, you can buy similar gadgets and use them at home. Dermatologists typically employed these masks in an office environment to alleviate inflammation after facials, reduce breakouts, and improve skin overall. Every mask uses a unique spectrum of light wavelengths that enter the skin to cause molecular changes, and each spectrum of light generates a different hue to treat specific skin conditions.
Is it safe?
LED lighting is absolutely safe, won’t harm your skin in any way, and is typically highly safe for all skin kinds and colours. There is no need to apply any topicals during the non-invasive treatment. There are some worries about eye damage, though, particularly if you have a history of seizures or migraines that are brought on by bright lights. Additionally, it should be mentioned that if overused, you might develop redness and soreness.
