The Police had opened fire on a group of protesters in Rambukkana on Wednesday killing one person. And injuring a number of others. Police Spokesman, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nihal Thalduwa said that.

The Police opened fire after initially using tear gas to disperse the agitating crowd. After they became violent and attempted to set a fuel truck on fire. The police said that the protesters had also blocked the railway track. And had been protesting in the area for several hours. The protesters rejected several calls by the police to clear the tracks. And later set a three-wheeler on fire and also tried to set fire to a fuel truck, forcing the police to open fire, which killed one person and injured 24 others.
