Sinovac’s vaccines shots are not accounted in Singapore’s COVID 19 vaccination tally

The Health Ministry clarified, ” COVID 19 vaccine that are not part of our national vaccination programme may not have documented sufficient data on their protection against COVID 19 infection, especially against the Delta variant that is circulating.”

Singapore have excluded those individuals administered by Sinovac Biotech’s shot from its national COVID 19 vaccination count, according to the city-State’s Health Ministry. ‘The Hindu’ quoted the Ministry who stated in an email statement on July 7 that the national vaccination numbers reflect only those under the national vaccination programmme. At present individuals who have been vaccinated with Morderna Inc and Pfizer-BioNTech/Cominarty vaccines are included in the national COVID 19 vaccination count, the Ministry clarified.

As per reports, Sinovac’s CoronaVac shot is not included in the Singapore’s national vaccination programme. The city-state asserted that it is still awaiting critical data from the company. The Ministry have allowed the usage of the vaccine in private healthcare institutions under a special access route, after an emergency use approval by World Health Organization. Reportedly, some of the selected private clinics can access the country’s current stock of 2,00,000 CoronaVac doses.

As per the data cited by ‘The Hindu’, around 3.7 million people have received at least one dose of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, constituting almost 65 per cent of the population and nearly 2.2 million have completed the regimen. Singapore aims to complete the two dose regimen for two-third of the population by August 9.

Singapore’s director of medical services, Kenneth Mark stated that the last month evidence from the other countries showed people who have taken Sinovac vaccine were getting infected. Furthermore, he said that there is a significant risk of vaccine breakthrough.

17000 people who have received one dose of CoronaVac till July 3, there records will be maintained in a national immunization registry, as per reports.

In the past week, the Health Ministry clarified, ” COVID 19 vaccine that are not part of our national vaccination programme may not have documented sufficient data on their protection against COVID 19 infection, especially against the Delta variant that is circulating.”

People vaccinated with Sinovac are required to undergo COVID 19 test before attending events or entering some venue. On the other hand, individuals who have completed the full vaccination regime with Pfizer or Moderna are exempted from the pre-event testing.
