The news of Pakistan’s PM being tested positive for COVID-19 came out after  Faisal Sultan, who is the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Health Services, Regulations & Coordination tweeted, “PM Imran Khan has tested positive for Covid-19 and is self isolating at home”.

It is interesting to note that Khan tested COVID-19 positive just two days after he took the first dose of Chinese vaccine Sinopharm on Thursday, March 18. Pakistan started its vaccine drive on February 2, after China reportedly donated 500,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine ‘Sinopharm’ to Pakistan.

As the question rose on the working of Chinese COVID-19 vaccine after Pak PM himself got COVID-19 positive, the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination of Pakistan has made a clarification that the Chinese vaccine has two doses and it takes around 2-3 weeks to develop anti-bodies. The official Twitter handle of the ministry tweeted, “Prime Minister Imran Khan was not fully vaccinated when he contracted the virus. He only got the 1st dose and merely 2 days ago which is too soon for ANY vaccine to become effective. Anti-bodies develop 2-3 weeks after 2nd dose of 2-dose COVID vaccines. #VaccinesWork”.
