Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar arrives on Saturday night in Maldives’ southernmost Addu City where he will inaugurate a police academy built with Indian assistance besides holding talks with his Maldivian counterpart Abdulla Shahid. This will be the first time ever that the Maldives has hosted an official bilateral visit outside the capital city, Male. EAM Jaishankar, who is visiting the Maldives on the invitation of Maldivian FM Abdulla Shahid, will also call on the President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. Addu is the southernmost atoll of the Maldives archipelago. Jaishankar will land directly at Gan International Airport in Addu from India. During the visit, both Foreign Ministers would hold official talks to review the progress on bilateral cooperation, following which several Memorandums of Understanding and Agreements will be exchanged. “The Minister of External Affairs will also participate in the inauguration ceremony of projects undertaken with the support of Indian grants, including the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement in Addu City. “This will be Minister Dr. Jaishankar’s third visit to the Maldives, since assuming office in May 2019. The visit will be of historic significance, as this will be the first time ever that the Maldives has hosted an official bilateral visit outside the capital city, Male’,” the Maldivian Foreign Ministry said. Jaishankar departs from the Maldives for Colombo on Sunday.
