Desecration of Mahatma Gandhi statue: US Ambassador apologises

Violent protesters in the US desecrated a statue of Mahatma Gandhi outside the Indian Embassy in Washington DC.

The locals of the area told ANI that some unruly protesters from the #BlackLivesMatter protests graffitied Gandhi’s statue with profanities and used spray paints. The statue was covered up later and an investigation was launched by the park police that is in charge of protecting the monuments in the area.

He tweeted, “Appalled as well by the horrific death of George Floyd & the awful violence & vandalism. We stand against prejudice & discrimination of any type. We will recover & be better.”

This vandalism is the latest in the violent protests all over the country following the death of George Floyd in the custody of four officers in Minneapolis Police Department.
