As the second wave of the infection hit the country, world leaders have extended their support to India.

On Saturday, India registered a record high 3,46,786 new COVID-19 cases, it is the highest single-day spike since the pandemic broke out last year. In the last 24 hours, the country has recorded 2,624 new deaths due to COVID-19, as per the data issued by the government. So far 1,66,10481 COVID-19 cases have been recorded in India, while 1,89,544 people have died due to the infection.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and family welfare has issued a set of guidelines for COVID-19 patients with mild, moderate and severe infections. In mild infections, if the person experiences upper respiratory tract symptoms, without shortness of breath or hypoxia, then the patient needs to isolate himself/herself and take precautions like physical distancing, stay in contact with physicians and monitor their temperature and oxygen saturation continuously.

For moderate infection, the clinical guide states that the patient needs to be admitted to the ward. He/she must then be provided oxygen support, anti-inflammatory or immunomodulatory therapy, anticoagulation doses and must be monitored continuously. For severe infections, the clinical guidance, issued by the health minister, clearly states that the patient must be admitted to an ICU immediately and provided with Respiratory support and anti-inflammatory or immunomodulatory therapy.

Further, he/she must be provided with anticoagulation doses, supportive measures such as assessing fluid responsiveness and septic shock should be taken immediately. Strict monitoring of the patients was necessary for clinical improvement.
