Afghan Foreign Minister Mohammad Haneef Atmar arrived at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport, in New Delhi on Monday. Upon his arrival, Atmar meet the external affairs minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar at the Hyderbad House, reported the news agency ANI.

The Indian external affairs minister welcomed the Afghanistan Foreign Minister and reportedly engaged in a detailed conversation on the peace process between the two nations.

“Welcomed FM @MHaneefAtmar of Afghanistan. Detailed conversation on the peace process. Also exchanged views on our bilateral cooperation and development partnership,” India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar wrote in a tweet.

The two leaders reportedly discussed taking the India-Afghanistan Strategic Partnership forward.

Accoring to the news agency ANI, FM Mohammad Haneef Atmar discussed a wide range of issues with EAM Dr. S. Jaishankar today, which included talks about the Afghan peace process, regional connectivity projects, and more.

The Afghan leader is expected to brief Jaishankar on the results of last week’s Moscow conference on Afghanistan.

“Arrived in beautiful & historic city of Delhi for a 3-day working visit. Look forward to holding talks with FM @DrSJaishankar & senior govt officials of India on #AfghanPeaceProcess, upcoming regional forums on peace & development of Afghanistan, security & economic cooperation,” wrote Atmar in a tweet, upon his arrival at the national capital.

Atmar is expected to brief Jaishankar on the results of last week’s Moscow conference on Afghanistan.

He also thanked EAM Dr. S. Jaishankar for his warm hospitality and the “very fruitful conversation” about the Afghan peace process, regional connectivity projects, trade & transit, and COVID19 support.

Earlier, India had sent Covid-19 vaccine supplies to Afghanistan to aid its fight against the virus, under the Vaccine Maitri initiative.

Afghanistan’s Ambassador Farid Mamundza has termed India as the most reliable regional partner and the largest regional contributor to development.
