Wearing masks could be made mandatory in Maharashtra: Health Minister Rajesh Tope

The health minister is expected to hold a meeting with top officials for making masks mandatory in public places

On Wednesday, April 27, Maharashtra health minister Rajesh Tope said that wearing masks in public places could be made mandatory again as COVID-19 cases are rising.

The health minister is expected to hold a meeting with top officials for making masks mandatory in public places. “I feel this decision (about making wearing of masks compulsory in public places) could be taken after the meeting,” said Mr Tope. He further urged people to voluntarily wear masks to prevent COVID-19 from spreading.

Mr Tope quoted that Delhi has not only made wearing masks mandatory but has also imposed a fine of Rs 500. As the COVID-19 cases are rising several states have again started to impose restrictions. The government of Maharashtra had removed all the restrictions related to COVID-19 on April 2.

As per the data by the Maharashtra health department, 100 new COVID-19 cases were recorded in Mumbai on Tuesday. The total number of active cases in Mumbai has reached to 10,59,433.
