Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju tests positive for COVID-19; says, “I’m physically fit and fine”

Kiren Rijiju inaugurated a Water Sports and Adventure Institute in Tehri, Uttarakhand on Friday and was also accompanied by State chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat.

Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju informed of his contraction for the novel coronavirus on Saturday and emphasized that he is feeling “fit and fine”. The 49-year-old mentioned he was being conducted with repeated Coivd-19 tests and the reports have come out positive.

“After getting repeated test for Covid-19, today my report has come out positive. I’m taking the advice of the Doctors. I request all those who have come in my contact recently to be observant, exercise self-quarantine and get themselves tested. I’m physically fit and fine,” Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju wrote in a tweet on Saturday.

Mr Rijiju inaugurated a Water Sports and Adventure Institute in Tehri, Uttarakhand on Friday. The sports Minister was also accompanied by State chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat who recently recovered from the deadly virus.

Meanwhile, the rising Covid-19 cases have flagged concerns amongst the masses and the government is trying its best to curb the spread of the virus. India witnessed 2,34,692 fresh infections on Tuesday, the biggest daily spike so far.

Earlier in the day, Union Health Ministry released the data of new Covid-19 cases in India – reaching the milestone of the highest single-day surge.

A report released by the Union Health Ministry states that in the last 24 hours, India reported 2,34,692 new Covid-19 cases and reached the milestone of the highest single-day surge and 1,23,354 patients got discharged, while 1,341 people died of this deadly virus.

Total active cases in India is now around 16.7 lakhs. The total death toll in India reached 1,75,649, reported news agency ANI.
