Meghalaya reports highest single-day spike

Shillong, Jan 14 (UNI) Meghalaya on Friday reported 189 new Covid-19 cases, the highest single-day spike, taking the number of active cases to 898 in the state, which has so far registered 85, 629 confirmed COVID-19 cases, health officials said.

On the other hand, 75 also recovered, pushing the number of such cases to 83, 597, while the fatality count stood at 1, 490.

The most pandemic-hit East Khasi Hills, which includes state capital Shillong, recorded 137 new COVID-19 positive cases on Friday, with the district now accounting for 711 active cases and 1013 cases of fatality, Director Health Service (MI), Dr. Aman War said.

Ten health workers were among those who has tested positive for the viral infection.
Meanwhile, 21, 98, 046 have been vaccinated with first and second dose while 9,430 persons have received the “precaution dose” on Friday.
