Infosys, Accenture to cover vaccination expenses for employees
India, on March 1, 2021, began the second phase of its vaccination program under which all citizens above the age of 60 years, and those between ages of 45-59 who have a higher COVID mortality risk will be eligible.
Infosys, an Indian information technology MNC, and Accenture, an American-Irish consultancy service provider, have both decided to cover the cost of the vaccination of their employees in India, according to Hindustan Times. As of now, vaccines are being provided free of cost at government facilities while private vendors have been asked not to charge more than Rs 250 for a shot.
Statements released by these firms also state that dependents of the employees who are eligible for the vaccination will also be provided with the shot.
Pravin Rao, Chief Operating Officer of Infosys in a statement informed, “Infosys is looking at partnering with healthcare providers to vaccinate staff and their immediate families as eligible under the guidelines given by the Government of India and as per approved procedures and timelines. Infosys will cover the vaccination cost for the employee and immediate family as part of our focus on health and wellness.”
Rekha Menon, Chairperson and Senior MD of Accenture said, “as we continue to navigate the pandemic, nothing is more important than the health and well-being of our people,” commenting on the company’s move.
