India’s Serum Institute has signed an arrangement with GAVI, Gates Foundation to develop COVID-19 vaccine

“The funding will support at-risk manufacturing by SII for candidate vaccines from AstraZeneca and Novavax,” the manufacturer of drug stated.

On Wednesday, Novavax Inc. reported that it has reached into a supply and licensing arrangement with the Serum Institute of India for the production and commercialization of its COVID-19 vaccine product.

“Given our experience with Novavax on the development of a malaria vaccine, we know the power of their vaccine technologies,” Adar Poonawalla, CEO of Serum Institute of India, stated.

“The rampant spread of the virus has rendered the entire world in an unimaginable halt of uncertainty. And to ensure maximum immunization coverage and contain the pandemic, it is important to make sure that the most remote and poorest countries of the world have access to  affordable cure and preventive measures. Through this association, we seek to ramp up our constant efforts to save the lives of millions of people from this dreadful disease.” Adar Poonawalla added.

About 2-3 million doses of the Oxford COVID-19 vaccine candidate has already developed by the firm.

Furtehr Adar Poonawalla mentioned that, “Keeping in mind the pandemic situation, we have two dedicated facilities to produce millions of doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, while withholding vast production of other products.”
