Goa to impose ‘strict lockdown’ from 29 April amid COVID-19 surge

Goa CM Pramod Sawant announced a lockdown in the state from the 29th of April till the 3rd of May. Well, the state will issue a detailed piece of information over the same till this evening.

Goa government, on Wednesday, announced that there will be strict lockdown from the 29th of April to the 3rd of May in order to curb the untrammeled rise in Covid-19 cases.

Goa CM Pramod Sawant, while addressing a press conference on Wednesday, said that the supply of essential goods and services will not be hindered during the lockdown.

“Lockdown would be imposed from Thursday evening 7 pm till Monday morning in the coastal state to break the chain of Covid-19 infection. Goa had been reporting more than 2,000 new infections on a daily basis this week”, said Chief Minister Sawant.

 

Though industrial services won’t cease to function during the lockdown period but there are other limitations too. For instance, weekly markets will not be allowed to operate. In addition to this, CM Pramod Sawant ensured that the casual laborers need not fret as businesses will function as usual from Monday onwards.

Though, the state will issue elaborated information over the same till this evening, according to the Goa CM.

CM Sawant also urged people to take precautions and immediately seek medical help if there are symptoms of the contagious Covid-19 virus. Furthermore, he added that the vaccination centers will not cease to function.

“The government has already modified its Covid-19 treatment protocol, which offers medicines at the time of testing without waiting for the results. The vaccination centers will continue to function during the lockdown and people get the jab after prior appointment”.

Though, the state has reported 2,110 cases in the last 24 hours while the total number of cases stands at 81,908.
