COVID-19: India’s tally crosses 9 lakh cases, 553 deaths in single day

On Monday, India’s Coronavirus tally crossed the 9 lakh mark as the states reported 28,498 fresh cases. The overall tally has now reached to 9,06,752. In the last 24 hours, 553 fatalities were reported pushing the death toll to 23,727.

The recovery rate has further improved to 63.02%. In the last 24 hours, 17,989 patients recovered from the infection taking the total number of recoveries to 5,71,459. Currently, the country has 3,11,565 active cases.

As per the health ministry, 70% of the deaths have occurred due to comorbidities – refers to a patient who suffers more than one diseases. For example, a patient diabetes, hypertension and asthma and contracts Coronavirus, he/she is more likely to die than a patient who just has Coronavirus.

The government has increased the number of testing labs across the country – 1,200 labs. Out of these labs, 852 labs come under the government sector, while the rest 348 come under private sector.

Out of the total fatalities reported so far in the country, Maharashtra has accounted for the most of them with 10,482 deaths, followed by Delhi with 3,411 deaths, Gujarat with 2,055 deaths and Tamil Nadu with 2,032 deaths.

According to the data at Johns Hopkins University, Coronavirus has infected over 1.3 crore people taken more than 5.7 lakh lives.
