COVID-19: Biggest jump in the death-toll, over 2,000 deaths in a day

The Coronavirus pandemic crossed the milestone of 3.5 lakh cases in India. In the last 24 hours, the states recorded 10,914 new Coronavirus cases. For over a week now, more than 10,000 fresh cases have been emerging every day. The nation crossed the milestone of 3 lakh cases on June 13, and it took four days to hit the 3.5 lakh mark.

Over 50% of the total Coronavirus patients have recovered. The number of active positive cases reached 155,227.

In the last 24 hours, India witnessed a big spike in the death toll as over 2,000 fatalities were reported. Most of these deaths were unreported earlier.

After a massive data reconciliation exercise, Maharashtra added at least 1,328 deaths in the last 24 hours.
About 862 deaths were confirmed in Mumbai.
These deaths were not reported by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) earlier.
The state’s death toll jumped to 5,537.
Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state by the pandemic in India as the total number of positive cases reported stands at 113,445.

In a similar manner, Delhi recorded 344 unaccounted deaths from earlier.
The national capital’s death toll increased to 1,837 in the last 24 hours.
There was a big spike in the number of fresh deaths as well, 93 patients succumbed to the Coronavirus infection on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a meeting with 21 Chief Ministers and Lieutenant Governors of Union Territories via a video conference. “We have to always keep in mind that the more we can stop the coronavirus, the more it will stop growing, the more our economy will open up, our offices will open, the markets will open, the means of transport will open, and so will new employment opportunities,” said PM Modi in his inaugural statement.
