Tata Power shares rise 5% as solar cell production begins at Tamil Nadu plant

Tata Power’s shares surged by 5% after the company announced the commencement of solar cell production at its manufacturing plant in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. The new facility is operated by TP Solar Limited, a subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL).

The plant has started commercial production from its 2 GW solar cell line, making it the largest single-location solar cell and module manufacturing facility in India.

This move is part of Tata Power’s efforts to support India’s clean energy goals by producing solar cells domestically, reducing reliance on imports.

The Tirunelveli plant, which began producing solar modules earlier this year, has already manufactured 1,250 MW of modules. The company plans to ramp up production with an additional 2 GW of capacity in the coming weeks, aiming to reach full capacity soon.

This expansion enhances Tata Power’s ability to meet the growing demand for high-quality solar components, especially for large-scale projects in India.
