This public reaction came moments after the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that a ceasefire agreement had been reached between the two countries, effective from 5:00 PM IST on May 10.
According to Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, the understanding was reached after a call between the DGMOs (Directors General of Military Operations) of both sides. “It was agreed that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land, in the air, and at sea,” he stated. Both militaries have reportedly issued operational instructions to enforce the ceasefire agreement.
The two DGMOs are expected to speak again on May 12 at 12:00 PM to review the implementation of the agreement.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio had also announced the ceasefire development, stating that both Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif had agreed to immediate de-escalation following intense diplomatic engagement led by Washington.
Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar also tweeted confirmation of the ceasefire agreement, further stating that Pakistan remains committed to peace and security in the region.
