As India votes in the Lok Sabha elections 2024 in seven phases, with three more yet to conclude, employees specially newly placed are in confusion whether they get paid leaves for casting vote or not.
There are certainly a major chunk of employees who have been freshly appointed, maybe soon out of college and since it is their first time of voting and also newly appointed to their office.
As per Section 135 ‘B’ of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, citizens are entitled to a paid leave on voting day. But to be on the practical side after the Indian companies are settled with work from home, the employers can ask the employees to work from home before or after they have completed voting to ensure minimal disruption to business.
