In a significant diplomatic and military breakthrough, India and Pakistan have agreed to a full ceasefire across land, air, and sea starting 5:00 PM IST on May 11, following a direct conversation between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries. The ceasefire comes after days of intense cross-border hostilities and international mediation led by the United States.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed that the Pakistani DGMO initiated the call at 3:35 PM IST on Saturday, during which it was mutually decided to halt all military activity with immediate effect. Both sides have since issued internal orders to operationalize the ceasefire, ensuring compliance from ground forces, air commands, and naval units.
As part of the agreement, the DGMOs of India and Pakistan will reconvene for a review meeting on May 12 at 12:00 PM IST to assess the status and effectiveness of the ceasefire on both sides. This dialogue will play a crucial role in stabilizing the situation and preventing further escalation.
The ceasefire understanding was reached independently by both nations, sources confirmed, refuting earlier claims that suggested external imposition. However, statements by US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio acknowledged the role of American diplomatic engagement in encouraging restraint and dialogue.
While both governments have refrained from commenting on broader peace talks, this ceasefire marks a vital de-escalatory step in the ongoing conflict and may open the door to further diplomatic engagement in the future.
