Shares of Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE) rose nearly 2% on Monday after the Indian Navy formally inducted ‘Androth’, the second Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC), at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam. The vessel, built by GRSE, marks a major step in bolstering India’s maritime defence under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Constructed with over 80% indigenous content, Androth is designed to strengthen anti-submarine warfare capabilities in India’s shallow coastal waters. The ship features advanced sensors and weapon systems to detect and neutralize underwater threats in littoral zones.

The commissioning ceremony was presided over by Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command. He highlighted that the induction of Androth reflects India’s growing shipbuilding capabilities and technological self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

GRSE, which has been a key contributor to India’s naval shipbuilding program, is constructing eight such ASW-SWC vessels for the Indian Navy. The successful delivery of Androth further strengthens the company’s order book and reaffirms its execution track record.

The development comes amid the government’s continued emphasis on indigenous defence production, with multiple projects under the “Make in India” and “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” frameworks boosting sectoral demand.

At the time of writing, GRSE shares were trading 2% higher on the BSE, reflecting investor optimism following the induction milestone.
