Budget 2024 Live: Finance Minister Highlights “Garib Ka Kalyan, Desh Ka Kalyan” as Government Aids 25 Crore People in the Past Decade

During the ongoing Budget 2024 presentation, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman emphasized the government’s commitment to “Garib Ka Kalyan, Desh Ka Kalyan,” stating that over the last 10 years, the government has played a pivotal role in liberating 25 crore people from poverty.

Also: PM Garib Kalyan Yojana, initiated at the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, played a crucial role in this endeavor. Ration card holders were entitled to an additional five kilograms of grains, allowing them to choose between wheat or rice. Furthermore, the program included the distribution of chana as part of the supplemental food distribution initiative.

In a significant move, the Union Cabinet, presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in November 2023, approved the extension of the central government’s commitment to providing free grains to eligible citizens under the public distribution scheme for an additional five years. This decision underscores the government’s sustained efforts to address the welfare of the economically vulnerable sections of society.
