As per the third edition of the government’s ranking of states based on the logistics foundation, Gujarat, Haryana, and Punjab are the best accomplishing states in terms of movement of goods and effectiveness of the logistics train.
Launched in 2018, the Commerce and Industry Ministry emerged the Logistics Ease Across Different States (LEADS) index. Deloitte judges state according to the logistical backing they contributed to developing goods trade.
Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra took up the remainder of the top-5 states. For illustration purposes, states have been placed in three categories, including ‘North Eastern States & Himalayan UTs’ and ‘Other UTs’ groups. Under this, Jammu and Kashmir have appeared as the top ranker, supported by Sikkim and Meghalaya.
“Delhi stands at the top rank among other United Territories. Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jharkhand have witnessed a remarkable improvement in their ranks compared to the 2019 LEADS ranking and have emerged as the top improvers, the report said. The ranking is done on parameters such as pricing competitiveness, timeliness and availability of foundation and services. It strives to inspire states to implement the policy thrust towards developing their logistics-related foundation.
Gujarat obtained its top place, similar to the prior two rankings. The state has maintained its rank through solid actions such as a combined logistics policy and a logistics park policy, producing suitable port-related infrastructure, and building institutional structures.
Haryana moved to the second-highest place, jumping from sixth in the last ranking. The state has achieved the highest score for various pointers such as Quality of Warehousing Infrastructure, Timeliness of Cargo Delivery during Transportation, Operating and Regulatory Environment, and Efficiency of Regulatory Services.
Meanwhile, Punjab dropped to third place from its earlier second-highest position. The state’s proactive strategies like single-window clearance mechanism for regulative consents, financial purposes under the Industrial and Business Development Policy, grievance redressal mechanism, and warehousing zones have enormously influenced the logistic ecosystem.
