Earlier, the Embassy of India in Madrid confirmed that two Indian nationals working as crew members aboard the ship were healthy and asymptomatic. According to the Embassy, the two Indians were evacuated to the Netherlands, where they will undergo quarantine in accordance with international health safety protocols.

Spanish authorities have not yet disclosed the total number of confirmed infections linked to the outbreak or whether any passengers have tested positive for the virus. However, officials stated that precautionary evacuations and medical screenings were being conducted to prevent any potential spread.

The vessel’s passengers reportedly began disembarking in phases after the ship anchored off the Canary Islands coast. Health teams equipped with protective gear were deployed during the evacuation process, while passengers were transferred under controlled medical supervision.

Hantavirus is a rare viral disease generally transmitted through contact with infected rodents, rodent urine or droppings. According to global health agencies, symptoms can include fever, muscle pain, fatigue and respiratory complications in severe cases. While human-to-human transmission is uncommon in most forms of the virus, authorities often implement strict quarantine measures in suspected outbreak situations.

The incident has raised concerns across European maritime and health authorities, especially as global monitoring of infectious diseases remains heightened after previous international health emergencies.

Spanish officials said coordination with Dutch authorities and international health agencies is continuing as evacuated passengers and crew members are transported for quarantine, observation and further medical assessment.

The Indian Embassy in Madrid stated that it remains in regular contact with Spanish authorities and the Indian nationals involved, adding that officials are closely monitoring the situation to ensure their safety and well-being.

Authorities have not announced any wider public health threat related to the incident so far, but investigations into the suspected outbreak aboard the MV Hondius are continuing.

Speaking during an official briefing, Sharif said Pakistan had received confirmation regarding Tehran’s response as regional and international powers continue efforts to prevent further escalation in the Middle East. However, he did not publicly disclose the contents of Iran’s reply or specify whether the response included conditions for a broader agreement.

The development comes after weeks of heightened military tensions involving Iran, the United States and Israel, which triggered fears of a wider regional war and disrupted shipping, energy markets and supply chains across the Gulf region.

According to Pakistani officials, Islamabad has remained engaged in diplomatic communication with multiple countries involved in the crisis and has repeatedly called for dialogue, restraint and an immediate de-escalation of hostilities. Pakistan has also expressed concern over the humanitarian and economic impact of continued instability in West Asia.

The latest diplomatic update follows recent statements by US President Donald Trump, who claimed that American operations had significantly weakened Iran’s military infrastructure and leadership. Trump earlier stated that the US had achieved “70 percent” of its objectives in Iran while warning that further military action remained possible if negotiations failed.

At the same time, Washington has also signalled willingness to pursue a negotiated settlement. US officials have reportedly been working with regional intermediaries and allies to maintain the ceasefire and reopen diplomatic channels with Tehran.

Iranian authorities have so far maintained a cautious public stance regarding the US proposal. Tehran has repeatedly insisted that any agreement must include guarantees related to sanctions, regional security and sovereignty issues. Iranian leaders have also accused the United States and Israel of escalating military tensions in the region.

The ceasefire currently in place across parts of West Asia remains fragile, with several international observers warning that even limited military incidents could derail ongoing diplomatic efforts. Concerns over disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz — a key global oil shipping route — have also continued to affect international energy markets.

Pakistan’s confirmation of Iran’s response is being viewed as one of the clearest indications so far that diplomatic communication between Tehran and Washington remains active despite recent military confrontations.

No official statement has yet been released by either the White House or the Iranian Foreign Ministry detailing the exact nature of the proposal or Tehran’s response. Regional diplomatic efforts are expected to continue in the coming days as global powers push to stabilise the situation.

In an official press release issued on May 10, the Embassy confirmed that the vessel, carrying nearly 150 people including the two Indians, arrived off the coast of the Canary Islands amid health concerns related to a reported Hantavirus outbreak onboard.

The Embassy stated that all passengers and crew members disembarked in accordance with protocols established by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Spanish authorities. The operation was coordinated with Spain’s National Center for Emergency Monitoring and Coordination (CENEM), which has been overseeing the emergency response.

According to the statement, the two Indian nationals are “healthy and asymptomatic.” Spanish authorities informed the Embassy that both individuals were evacuated to the Netherlands, where they will remain under quarantine in line with international health safety procedures.

The Indian Embassy in Madrid said the Ambassador remains in close contact with Spanish authorities as well as the affected Indian nationals and is continuously monitoring the situation to ensure their well-being and safety.

The MV Hondius is a polar expedition cruise vessel operated under the Dutch flag and is known for conducting voyages in remote regions. Authorities have not yet released detailed information regarding the number of suspected infections onboard or the exact origin of the reported Hantavirus exposure.

Hantavirus is a rare but potentially serious viral disease primarily transmitted through contact with infected rodents or their droppings. Symptoms can initially resemble flu-like illness and, in severe cases, may lead to respiratory complications, according to global public health agencies. "Heading into 2026, tablets have been relegated in importance for vendors across margins, volume, and overall value," said Himani Mukka, Research Manager at Omdia. "In this supply-constrained environment, consumers and vendors alike are being more deliberate about which devices to prioritize. PC vendors are focusing on notebooks and desktops, while those operating across both smartphones and tablets are gravitating toward smartphones due to their outsized contribution to overall business.”

“Within the tablet space, vendors’ focus in 2026 will be skewed toward the premium segment, where demand has held up better relative to the mass market,” added Mukka. “The volume tier is more challenged: promotional headroom is limited as there is little room to absorb further price increases, and tablets lack a structural refresh catalyst comparable to the Windows 10 end-of-support cycle in the PC market. The outlook for the second half of 2026 is expected to remain cautious, with volume market segments facing the greatest pressure on both shipment volume and value.”

The Warangal PM MITRA Park is the first of seven PM MITRA textile parks approved by the Union government, with the others still in development phases. The project has been set up as a “greenfield” integrated industrial cluster spread over 1,327 acres in Warangal district, of which about 866.84 acres are earmarked for industrial use.

According to the Textiles Ministry, over 62 per cent of the park’s land has already been allotted to anchor investors, signalling strong early traction in investor commitments. The ministry has stated that the park is expected to draw investments exceeding ₹6,000 crore, with around ₹3,800–3,862 crore already committed or “grounded” from various textile firms.

Officials say the Warangal PM MITRA Park is projected to generate about 24,400 direct jobs, with thousands of positions already created during the construction and initial setup phase. The park is designed to cover the full textile value chain, from spinning and weaving to processing, garmenting and technical textiles, enabling economies of scale and plug‑and‑play infrastructure for investors.

By creating a dedicated mega‑cluster, the government aims to enhance India’s competitiveness in global textile markets, reduce logistics costs and consolidate fragmented manufacturing units into a single, integrated zone. The park in Warangal is also expected to strengthen the dominant position of Telangana and the surrounding region in cotton‑based and technical‑textile manufacturing.

Globally, the project is being framed as part of India’s broader push to capture a larger share of the apparel and made‑ups export market, with the PM MITRA scheme envisaging that each park, once fully operational, can attract around ₹10,000 crore in investments and generate roughly 1 lakh direct and 2 lakh indirect jobs when all seven are completed.

The Ministry said its air‑defence systems “engaged” two UAVs originating from Iranian territory on Sunday, May 10, 2026, as part of an ongoing series of Iranian‑launched missile and drone activity directed at the UAE.
