He was born as Dhirajlal to a Modh family in a little town named Chorwad in Junagadh city of Gujarat. His father was a school tutor.

He began his first business by trading chaat-pakoda to pilgrims at Mount Girnar in Gujarat.

Most of the modern days’ businessmen have higher degrees with them, higher degrees from either Russel group universities or Ivy League universities; but do you know that this business mogul of India had barely 10th standard certificate!

At the age of 16, he went on his first foreign journey in 1955 to Aden in Yemen as he departed his home to meet his brother- Ramniklal. While in Aden, his first employment was that of a gas-station servant. He got his first income of Rs.300 in A. Besse & Co. there.

In 1960, He co-founded a corporation Reliance Commercial Corporation along with his brother- Champaklal Damani.

His first headquarters was 350 Sq. Ft. room at the Narsinathan Street in Masjid Bunder, Mumbai. The office just had two tables, a telephone, and three chairs. This was the beginning and now it is almost an empire.

His company was nominated and renamed frequently. First, he called his corporation Reliance Commercial Corporation then renamed it Reliance Textiles Pvt. Limited and ultimately to Reliance Industries Limited.

In 1996, Reliance came to be the first Indian private company to be measured by worldwide credit rating mechanisms like S&P, Moody’s, etc.

On 24 June 2002, he underwent a major stroke for the second time 1st stroke emerged in 1986, which paralyzed his right limb, and was admitted and medicated in Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. He lost this world on 6 July 2002 after being in a coma for almost two weeks.

Dhirubhai Ambani is considered one of the tremendous Indian entrepreneurs of all time. A man with no family prosperity, no other kind of wealth in hand, and no substantial preservations went on to evolve as one of the largest business families in India which made Dhirubhai Ambani a motivation for many.

First public speech: After he obtained his fifth standard certificate in the village school, Dhirubhai was brought to the district town of Junagarh for higher education. In his third year in the school, he was appointed as general secretary of the Students Union, Junagarh. It was those days an imperial state ruled by a Nawab. The Indian Independence Act enacted by the British Parliament expected the Nawab to integrate his state with the Indian Union but the Nawab did not approve of that.
