Today world is celebrating International Men’s Day 2020, which is an annually celebrated event on the 19th of November. ‘The Six Pillars of International Men’s Day’ sets out the objectives to celebrate International men’s day. Today we tend recognise the importance of men in our lives. The day is observed as an occasion to celebrate the contributions of men for the nation, society, community, family, marriage, and childcare. The basic idea to celebrate the day is to promote basic humanitarian moralities and values. The day is observed by 44 countries across the globe including India.
The occasion was inaugurated in 1992 on 7 February by Thomas Oaster. Later Jerome Teelucksingh revived the occasion and chose 19 November in order to honour his father’s birthday and also to celebrate the cause that in 1989 Trinidad and Tobago’s football team had united to together qualify the World Cup. The day is not only about a particular gender but also is an event where all issues affecting men and boys can be addressed. “They are striving for gender equality and patiently attempt to remove the negative images and the stigma associated with men in our society” said Teelucksingh to IMD and its activists.
Significance of the day
The day signifies the role of men and his contribution towards the nation, society, community, family, marriage and childcare. The day intends to promote positive male role model. The day is significant in terms of promoting gender equality and relations. It speeds the awareness about men’s mental health and also the importance to learn men’s emotion too.
International Men’s Day Theme 2020
Every year, the day is celebrated by providing a particular theme. Last year the day was observed with a theme “Making a Difference for Men and Boys” which focused on promoting the need to value men and boys and together try to improve their mental health and well being. While this year, the theme generated is “Better health for Men and Boys” which aims to practically improve the health and well being of male production.
