A look at J. Jayalalithaa’s career as an actress

Jayaram Jayalalithaa was an Indian politician but also an Indian film actress. She first came into the film industry as the lead actress in the mid-1960s. She chose this profession because her mother urged her to initiate this career to support her family.

She is said to have appeared in 140 films between 1961 and 1980. She primarily conjured movies of Tamil, Telugu and Kannada languages. She gained a lot of popularity and praise for her work as an actor and her divergent roles. She was not only an eloquent actress but also a majestic dancer earning the title of Queen of Tamil Cinema. She also worked with co-stars like MG Ramachandran who served as a colleague in her political career also. She then later quit acting joined politics under MGR who was the leader of AIADMK at that time

She also trained in Carnatic music, western classical piano and various classical dance as Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Mohiniyattam, Manipur, Kathak. She became a renowned dance and gave her debut at Rasika Ranjani Sabha in Mylapore in May 1960. She was also known as Thanga SILAI. As a child, she also enacted in a Kannada language film Sri Shaila mahathme with lead actors Rajkumar and Krishna Kumari.

While in 1962 she also played Lord Krishna in a Hindi film Man-Mauji. She also performed in plays such as Tea House of the August Moon and Undersecretary. She also gained offers for English movies such as the Epistle.Jayalalithaa also acted in Parthasarathy’s plays. She played roles in Malathi, The Whole Truth, and the dance drama Kaveri Thanda Kalaiselvi.
