The Crown season 5: Release Date, Plot, Cast everything we know so far

The 1990s will be the setting for The Crown Season 5, which will see Netflix’s royal epic enter a decade with a lot more real-life turmoil. The lead character of Olivia Colman will be taken over by Imelda Staunton, and the rest of the ensemble will return as the programme enters its final season.

The Crown Season 5’s confirmation by Netflix that it would be the show’s final episode back in 2020 startled fans, but thankfully, that decision was overturned, and we’ll be enjoying two more helpings of the royal frolic over a coming couple of years.

“As we started to discuss the storylines for series five, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons,” said Morgan

The Crown Season 5 Announcement

The minute-long video was artfully edited to mimic the Queen’s Christmas greeting. It is anticipated to consist of 10 episodes, much like the previous seasons. See Imelda’s announcement of the premiere date for The Crown Season 5 below.

Production on the sixth and final season started before the fifth season was made available.

The Crown Season 5 Release Date

The fifth season of The Crown will premiere on Netflix on November 9th, 2022, in every country.

Of course, this was exactly what we anticipated. Imelda Staunton made an announcement towards the end of September 2021 while on the set of The Crown dressed as the Queen. She informed us that Netflix would release The Crown Season 5 in November 2022, making it a significant component of the massive streaming service’s Autumn TV schedule.

The Crown Season 5 Cast

Imelda Staunton (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix) will play the main character in The Crown in the fifth season, succeeding Claire Foy and Olivia Colman. She expressed her excitement for the job and added that she is a big fan of the programme.

Imelda Staunton said that although she loved the work of her predecessor, she thought it would be difficult to portray a more modern queen.

The Queen’s sister was portrayed by Vanessa Kirby and Helena Bonham Carter from Seasons 1-4 to much acclaim. Now, Oscar-nominated actress Lesley Manville will fill the position.

After Matt Smith and Tobias Menzies stunned audiences with their portrayals of the late Duke of Edinburgh, Jonathan Pryce picks up the slack. Pryce also featured opposite Anthony Hopkins in The Two Popes, another popular historical film from Netflix.

The Night Manager’s Emma Corrin will be replaced by the Australian actress, although the producers have suggested that Corrin may make a cameo appearance in flashback scenes. Corrin stole the show with a breakout performance as Diana Spencer in the fourth season.

Josh O’Connor, who played in series three and four, will be replaced as heir to the throne by the British actor of The Wire, Pride, and Appropriate Adult. Emerald Fennell will be replaced as Prince Charles’s girlfriend by the star of The Nevers.

John Major, the British prime minister from 1990 to 1997, will be played by Johnny Lee. The love and last companion of Princess Diana who perished in the 1997 Paris automobile disaster will be portrayed by Khalid Abdalla in season five of The Crown. Viewers will gain insight into their relationship before the tragic catastrophe through the drama.

The Crown Season 5 Plot

The finale of Season 4 covered Margaret Thatcher’s resignation as prime minister, therefore the upcoming season’s narrative has not yet been revealed, although it is almost guaranteed to begin with John Major in Downing Street.

Season 5 is anticipated to cover the early 1990s because the programme is reported to be winding up in the middle of the 2000s, however, it is uncertain when it will end. Peter Morgan, however, has no shortage of real-life drama to sink his teeth into, particularly in 1992, when The Queen infamously referred to as her “annus horribilis.”

In addition to the separation of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, Princess Anne and Captain Mark Phillips, Prince Charles and Diana also announced their separation, Windsor Castle caught fire, causing millions of pounds in damage, and Prime Minister John Major announced the Queen would be subject to taxes starting in 1993.

If the series continues into 1997, Diana’s 1995 interview with Martin Bashir is anticipated to be included, and events like Tony Blair’s victory and her passing are certain to be mentioned.

Princess Anne’s marriage to Timothy Lawrence in 1992, the 40th anniversary of VE Day in Britain, and the Queen mother becoming the oldest patient to have hip replacement surgery at age 95, both in 1995, are other noteworthy events.
