Sony Pictures has a longstanding experience with Spider-Man and other Marvel Comics characters for which the company holds the big-screen rights, and plans for an interconnected universe incorporating those characters have as of late sped up. Following the success of Venom in 2018, Sony uncovered plans for other Marvel Comics-based movies, beginning with Morbius, the Living Vampire.
Morbius 2 has still to be affirmed by Sony and, truth be told, it doesn’t seem like a sure thing.
Here’s everything we know so far about Morbius 2.
Morbius 2 potential release date
As mentioned above, Morbius 2 presently can’t seem to be affirmed so there is certainly not an official release date at this point.
Sony has busy several years ahead for its Marvel projects, beginning with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on June 2, 2023, so it’s hard to see where the sequel can fit in the present moment.
Fellow Spider-Man spin-off Kraven the Hunter is all good to go to follow on October 6, 2023, then El Muerto on January 12, 2024 and Madame Web on February 16, 2024. There’s likewise an undated, yet affirmed, Venom 3 to come.
Regardless of whether it was affirmed, it’s probably we will have to wait until at least 2024 for Morbius 2 to show upif it gets affirmed.
Morbius 2 cast
The ending of Morbius obviously sets up the arrival of many main characters for a potential sequel. The titular Michael Morbius would surely come back for any iteration of Morbius 2, with the fallen doctor destined to be a far more bitter proposition following the deaths of his father figure Dr. Emil Nicholas (Jared Harris), and sibling Milo. Martine Bancroft (Adria Arjona) likewise looks set to come back for Morbius 2 after her character’s new vampire physiology revives her from the dead in Morbius’ last scene.
Morbius ending explained
To draw Morbius into a fight with him, Milo kidnaps Martine and not long before Morbius shows up, Milo fatally attacks Martine to leave her dying for him to find.
To make her death “mean something”, Morbius drinks from Martine and we assume that’s it for her. In any case, after Morbius beats Milo and kills him with the antibody he created, we cut back to the rooftop where Martine’s body is and we see her open her eyes.
It’s unclear which vampire Martine has turned into, yet it means something bad ahead for the couple as in the comics, Martine meets a shocking end when Morbius is forced to kill her to stop her from biting Spider-Man.
