Apple TV+ has uncovered the documentary series Super League: The War For Football. The 4-part series will be accessible on the streaming stage from 13 January. It features access to league presidents, club owners and the architects behind the European Super League, covering the untold story of how and why this idea was hatched and the battle plans that were formed to fight it.

As per Deadline, the series will document when Manchester United, Arsenal, Juventus, Real Madrid, and Barcelona made plans to form a breakaway league. 12 of Europe’s top soccer clubs affirmed the agreement in April 2021, challenging the European Champions League.

The series is helmed and executive produced by All Rise Films’ News & Documentary Emmy Award-winning director Jeff Zimbalist, and executive produced by Words + Pictures’ Emmy Award-winning Connor Schell.

The story begins last April when it was uncovered that 12 of the world’s most powerful football clubs – including Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus were wanting to form a new midweek competition called the European Super League (ESL) which implied they would never again take part in long-established continental tournaments including the Champions and Europa Leagues.
